Helen Taft, Executive Director of Families First Health and Support Center joins us this weekend to share about the center and its programs. The mission of Families First is "to contribute to the health and well-being of the Seacoast community by providing a broad range of health and family services to all, regardless of ability to pay." Families First provides medical, dental, behavioral health, substance abuse counseling, nutritional counseling, social work counseling, medication assistance, parenting and family groups, home visiting services, and mobile healthcare for the homeless. The mission of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is "to educate, incite and entertain learners of all ages in the sciences and humanities by actively engaging them in the exploration of astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science." Our guests, Jeane Gerulskis and Sharon Eng join us to share 'What's up at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center?' We will first look back at 2013 for a short discussion on the challenges and accomplishments as well as a recap of the year's events and exhibits.
Looking ahead to 2014, it is going to be a busy year for the center with the development and construction of a science themed playground, a special gallery dedicated to Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard, STEM camps taking place in the summer vacation period, and four special exhibits; Earthquakes, Engineering, Aviation, and Robotics. The Concord Community Holiday Dinner is a community wide event that brings volunteers together to provide a wonderful meal for those in need in the Concord area who are alone this holiday season or perhaps otherwise would not have a meal. There is no charge for the meal and all are welcome. The dinner is completely put on by volunteers with donations from some area businesses. The Concord Community Holiday Dinner is served on Christmas Day from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Grappone Conference Center.
