Big Z Challenge

Dr. Brian Hoertdoerfer and Elizabeth Jenkins will join us for Northeast Delta Dental Radio to talk about the 8^th annual Big Z Challenge.  The event is a family event where children have the opportunity to meet Boston Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara at a fun and festive party.  The theme for this year’s event is “All about Hockey.”  This is a fundraiser event with proceeds going to the planned expansion of the Elliot Hospital Cancer Center through the Mary and John Elliot Charitable Foundation.  In the past seven years, the Big Z Challenge has raised a total of $125,000. Swim with a Mission

What's up at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center?

The mission of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is "to educate, incite and entertain learners of all ages in the sciences and humanities by actively engaging them in the exploration of astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science." 

Our guest, Jeanne Gerulskis will share with us 'What's up at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center?'  We will first look back at 2018 for a short discussion on the challenges and accomplishments as well as a recap of the year's events and exhibits.  Since 2013 when the Discover Center became a nonprofit corporation, they have served over 250,000 people from the general public, schools, facility rentals, and workshops.

Looking ahead to 2019, the center will feature two special exhibits; Virtual Fish Tank – a cool, interactive exhibit produced by the Museum of Science in Boston.  The second special exhibit is the 50^th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing.  Two new planetarium shows will also debut in 2019; Moons of the Solar System and Apollo 50^th Anniversary/  Stop by the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center and be sure to visit them on the web at www.starhop.com.

The Jingle Bell Runs to benefit the Arthritis Foundation

Erica D’Agostino, Executive Director of the Arthritis Foundation New England joins Tom Raffio for a conversation on arthritis and the upcoming Jingle Bell Runs  As part of the show, we will feature two honorees of the Arthritis Foundation.  Emily Jacques, Youth Honoree and Gay Jacques, Honoree; both of whom will share their ‘story’ with us.  Their talks will provide us with the insight into their form of arthritis, how they cope with it daily, and the effects it has on their families.  We will also talk about the upcoming Jingle Bell Runs (December 2 in Freeport, ME; December 9 in Portsmouth, NH; and December 16 in Concord, NH) - the proceeds from these events benefit the Arthritis Foundation.  Learn more at http://www.arthritis.org/new-hampshire/
